So I´ve been really bad about updating this! So...sorry, will try harder. I
Spent a standard week last week, in sun, teaching, studying etc... all going well. It was very hot! The temperatures are now getting up into the 30´s daily as we come into our Summer (its technically still spring here!), ugh! Now, I realise why the Argentines go out so late at night, because of the heat. But, apart from that it´s all going well, loving the lifestyle. London and home seems like a very distant memory now, although I do miss it. I´ve been here nearly 2 months now, and its flown by...I´m sure the next 4 will speed by even faster, now I´m settled and enjoying myself!
So, foodwise, I love the Argentine cuisine...MEAT, MEAT, MEAT. Meat if plentiful here, so it´s cheap, but of very good quality. My favourite is a Lomo, which is cut of very tender steak, with lettuce, sauce, cheese, ham (Jamón y Queso!, that European staple is massive here!) all between to slices of pitta style bread.
Last weekend spent Saturday, relaxing, and borrowing a friends PC to study and listen to Radio 1 live (LIFESAVER), so I´m now up to speed with most of the new mainstream music...theres quite a bit...unfortunately you can´t listen to XFM from here...argh! But I´ve read the XFM playlists and checked out the new stuff on youtube, so all is good.
I then spent Sunday trekking in the Andes, which was pretty epic! 5 hour trek, and there was a small group of us with a very ARgentine mountain guy. We went up, over and down mountains, came across all sorts of trees (which you dont expect to see in the dry mountain chain), waterfalls etc... It was spectacular, but tiring.
So then the week, spent nothing out of the ordinary... Then this weekend spent the day on a proper Argentine ranch (Estancia), with proper Argentine cowboys (Gauchos) horseriding and herding. It was amazing, it was like a properly cultural and authentic experience...It was followed by traditional Argentine asados (bbq steak cuts). The space was so VAST and huge, and there was no one else around except for us...we then went down to a Guacho fair, where they were having a family get together in a school (think a primary school summer fair), and they were doing all their traditional mountain dancing...it was amazing as it was not put onto tourists, we just had the luck to have visited the ranch on this day. So, I´d say this trip was the best things I´ve done so far, even though I ache right now!
