UGH! Its SOOOOOO hot here. A spring time heatwave...of 39 degrees...SPRING. The worst is yet to come in December and January...and I can´t imagine it being hot on Xmas...NO WAY! This heat is killing me as well! And no one else is sympathetci, because all my flat mates are ARgentine, and all my foreign mates are from Spain, or Mexico, Chile, Brazil etc... Only one of them, a german, said it´s a bit too hot.
Anyway, a pretty basic few days of work and classes. Obviously, when I say basic day...I mean 3-5 hours work, the rest relaxing in the warm weather in town with friends having coffee, food or Andes, the local beer.
Monday - Spanish class, which is going well. I share it with a loco American lady, who lives here and spends a lot of time thinking she correct the teacher, who is a native speaker from Buenos Aires! Monday night, I ate and stayed in, for a change, and learnt to cook! Well, pasta. But lots of it...
Tuesday - Same relaxed pace as yesterday... Teaching English to a class of adult beginners. It´s really interesting to see these spanish speakers stumble over our language. We were doing the past tense...and you realise how illogical our language can be...for example in the present tense, the verb to Read, is pronounced "Reeeed", as in "I read books for a living", but in the past tense it´s pronounced "Rehd", as in "last year I read a book", yet both are spelt the same. And the fact the the -ough thing has loads of different sounds, rough, through, thorough etc... And for them again, a group of people who love my accent. I can´t help it!!!! I´m working at a company called Instituto Intercultural which is a small building, for adult education, and they offer all major languages to be studies, including Spanish as a foreign language, which is what I´m doing. I also volunteer 5 days a week as an assistant English teacher, and one to one tutor for more advanced students. All the argentines who can speak English speak it with an american accent too! So, to here me speak and pronoune words is tricky for them. But as I always tell em, I speak the proper English, or should that be "prop`ah english".
Wednesday - Much the same, again, worked at the instituto, Spanish class. Oh, had breakfast with a mate, early ugh!, But thats about all,and all I have time to write. The fun stuff will happen at the weekend, when I´m planning another trip into the Andes (every weekend in the Andes!), and fancy dress party for halloween, I also have plans to a long distance journey too.
