A Dane once told me, as I was standing in the wine section of the supermarket wondering which type would be a good one to buy, that Sweden would be a lovely place if it wasnt for the Swedes. And then he suggested a wine for me to buy.
He was deffinitely right that Sweden is a lovely place, and even arriving at Stockholm I could already tell this from the air: millions of archipaglios scattered wherever space was available (no justice done from Google maps). Something which I hadnt seen before and it is positively amazing. And he was deffinitely right about the wine also.
A weekend in Stockholm with the sun shining. Even the city is built on a scattering of larger islands, which completes the list of things a city should have to make it perfect. Theres an island for the old town, which is filled with narrow winding medieval streets with tall buildings and shops which are unfortunately mostly filled with trashy tourist novelties.
Theres an island for... everything, even a theme park.
Although Ive never been to Venice, theres a part of stockholm that i imagine would be like Venice's grand canal. Boats everywhere.
So all Ive done in Stockholm is wander around unfortunately without my 14mp camera, instead i have my emergency phone camera supplying 2mp photos. A little island I found harbours old boats now converted to pleasure boats, like a little museum. Each boat has a little story about it, when and where is was built and what it was used for. These varied from tug boats, naval patrol vessels, cargo boats and Dutch boats.
And, even with aching feet, I couldn't miss the opportunity to check out the shopping but with fingers as tired as my feet, all I can say is that its good.
