After a break in Bordeaux we jumped on the train once more and headed along the river valley. This region is called the Dordogne Region and is apparently populated with more Brits than French. Arriving at our new host I was comfortingly reminded and reassuerd that we were carrying out our plan to visit Southern France for the winter. A little holiday inside our holiday to bordeaux. We stayed in a lovely hotel for the weekend and the weather was perfectly sunny and hot. Most of our time was spent relaxing in our pokey room,eating and a bit of wanering around streets, markets churches and eating. At the top of the Charantes stands an old lime kiln, not used for 50 years and now inhabbited by various species of owl. Next door, a French farm house with a shed and barn hiding a busy road and creating a haven inside the property for the 30 odd chickens and 6 or 7 cockrels.
