After a break in Bordeaux we jumped on the train once more and headed along the river valley. This region is called the Dordogne Region and is apparently populated with more Brits than French. Its lovely even on a dismal day.
We're headed in the direction of Toulouse but our nearest city-town is Rodez, and its still a fair distance from there. The journey was easily the best so far and our stop is just passed and old mining town along the river.
Since arriving at our first and only Australian hosts, jobs have varied from tearing up floor boards in the attic, preparing a new garden out the front including the installation of curious looking raised beds, desogned from off cuts of timber, all barky, knotty and knarled. Still, quite an effective end result.
Theres a lovely little village across the Lot River which we rode out bikes to a few time to share a bottle of French cider and pain au shokolade. And on our days off we were taken once into Rodez where it was very wet so most of our time was spent inside and Ethopian hippy pub which smelled very much like a toilet but everyone inside spoke with us and were rather friendly. Another time we were dropped off in a mountain village called Cong. Its a very dramatic and scenic little village with church, pubs, laneways all built on the side of a mountain. Well worth another visit.
