Well, having just done this and lost the lot I am going to keep this brief. Picked up the car from Heathrow and had no difficulty getting onto the M4 heading off towards the Cotswolds. We decided to take a varied route - part motorway and part country roads. Skirted around Swindon and explored part of the Cotswolds Water park, a series of lakes used for camping, adventure parks, sailing etc. surrounded by cycle and walking trails. A fabulous day brough out the thousands, and there were lots of red bodies around. We stopped in Cirencester for lunch, a lovely old town that was hard to get into and even harded to get out of!! After a nice lunch in the pub above, and a warm english beer, we headed off to our B & B in Bourton on the Water. We parked the car in the driveway, and as instructed welked down into the village to collect the key from the Mad Hatters tea rooms. Well, there were thousands upon thousands of people lying on the grassy banks of the Windrush river, yet more playing in the river (about 6 inches deep) and hundreds sitting in the sun or the shade having cream teas. Apparently it is like this on any fine Sunday - a bit like an outing to the beach for us. Anyway, we are assured that they will all be gone by 6 pm. We came back and had a bit of a rest and I have been struggling with this since. Will have a shower and then head down to the village and find somewhere nice for dinner.
Burton on the water is a lovely old village, with all the houses and buildings built in the yellow gold Cotswold stone. Very wooded, and I believe still sports many poplar trees once used in the manufacture of matches for May & Bryant. The village is also known as 'Little Venice' due to the many quant and ancient bridges over the river.
Well I am going to finish this now before I lose it again. Good luck with following this. xx
