Beverley to Baldock.
It was another long trip today from Beverley to Baldock, made longer by the roundabout route we took to the East to Strubby to view the graves of Paul's long lost ancestors. We eventually found the churchyard down a very narrow lane. I think the Church is still in use, but the church yard is inhabited by sheep and electric fences, and lots of very old graves. We eventually found several Lindsey graves, but all were hard to read, so can only guess at what relationship they were.
It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed the scenery along the way - the wolds and the fenns. We stopped in the fabulous small town of Stamford - very affluent town bordered by Burghley Estate, of horse trials fame. A huge estate sporting many fancy gates around the perimeter wall, and a super golf course. We had a lovely lunch in the town albeit a little late in the day. On then to the A1M and were in Baldock in a short space of time. We had a very warm welcome from Fred and Brenda and tea out in the courtyard in the sun and then a lovely dinner on our laps watching the British Open golf. Just like home!!
However, today it dawned grey and wet. We did venture out for a walk around Baldock town which is another historic market town full of grand old houses. Fred and Brenda's house is a grade 2 listed house that was once the Coach house for the very grand house next door (this has been converted into several apartments.) F & B house is lovely now that they have done it up - modern heating, new kitchen etc. and lots of titivating. It is has a beautiful little garden in the front and sunny courtyard at the back, and no lawns at all. Perfect for their retirement and they love it. They are still as busy as ever and involved in preparing meals for the disadvantaged and needy once a month at the church amongst other things.
After a coffee down in the village we went back watched the golf again till it was time to go out for lunch at a local pub which was lovely. Back home again to a bit of sunshine and more golf, cups of tea and lovely cake. All very relaxing.
Off for a walk now.

claire Glad you made it to Stubby - obviously church yard has deteriorated since our visit 6yrs ago - we've been watching golf too - weather not nice down there for them yesterday. Sun is shining here in Ham again today - amazing. love C

Anna started back at uni today and thomas is now on holiday. Him and Richard and Jake are on their way down to Turoa for a few days skiing/snowboarding. The weather is supposed to be good so fingers crossed. (and for no injuries!) we started our official marathon buildup yesterday - 22.6k, so am abit sore today! Up to the top of Mt Eden, one tree hill, mt hobson and mt st john! Was hard work but good. Raro went well - the weather is perfect there at the moment. Lots and lots of love to you both xxx
