After the usual 'full English' we set off to the town of Cheltenham to find a Vodofone shop and get my phone set up for UK use. No trouble to find a Car park, but put in enough money for 2 hrs (2.50 pounds) and only got 1 hr bit of a swiz. However, we had plenty of time and then sat and had a coffee. Boy it is hard to get the sort of coffe one wants - usually a long black in NZ here it could be anything, but have settled for a double espresso in a bigger cup with extra water. So far so good. Cheltenham is quite a large town and is famous for its Spa and racecourse, both of which we had a look at. It is very much like Bath in many ways, large houses in terraces, which had obviously been quite opulent but are now mostly appartments.
On the road again to Winchcombe, another historic market town. Cobbled streets, very old buildings etc. I have never seen so many people with walking sticks (like real ones, not hiking ones). It is quite understandable really as the footpaths are really uneven. Also saw lots of people with broken arms, sore legs etc.
We just ambled along then, stopping here and there and taking little side roads to quaint villages with nothing but 1 pub (absolutely essential). We have had the odd beer or two, but they have not really been cold enough to suit our tastes, or the weather. It has been stinking hot (at least 29 deg) and quite humid. The sky has clouded over and thunder storms are threatening.
Final stop was Stow-on-the-Wold another extremely pretty market town, full of pubs, tearooms and galleries, narrow paths and cobbled roads. Home about 5 pm and Paul sitting with his feet up and me doing this of course. Paul's leg is holding up okay, but is very swollen by the end of the day, partly due to the heat too I expect.
It is hard to believe we have only been here 2 days. Still havent caught up with the sleep - both awake reading in the night. Off to Wales tomorrow to cousin Hugh and Carrie's.

Diane Hi mum and dad. Funny that we live in different countries but I still miss you more now that you are so far away!!!! Awesome to read what you guys are up too, sounds amazing. Weather not so great here at the moment - been blowing and rainy but still managing to get out fishing every day. Junior has got the flu and is in bed totally miserable - he is hot and cold, sweating etc. Most of the 7 of us in the house have some ailment of some sort!!! Anyway will send you an email at some stage to fill you in. Love you guys and have a great time xoxoxo
claire Hi - where are you now - your parking cost is minimal compared to Martin and Myra - they paid $2.50 for a bus ride to Universal Studios (1-1/2 hour ride) then taxied back to hotel -cost $84 !! - ouch.(plus tip) - they have now picked up RV and are off to Phoenix. Beautiful day in Ham -(amazing) have played golf 2 days - (between showers) - going to lunch with a friend from golf to check out the Vision Forest Lake lunch menu - sounds very reasonable - so may make a booking for the golf ladies. - cherio and love Claire and David
