Travelling by TGV to Rennes left us with just a one hour drive to reach Malestroit. With the exception of a garden full of massive weeds the house was pretty much as we left it at the end of May - hopefully the weedkiller will help keep things at bay at the end of the summer growing period before we return in October. With the weather being rather glorious we enjoyed a wander around Malestroit before enjoy a drink in the main square ahead of dinner at the 'Pont 9' restaurant. Sunday morning had us having a traditional breakfast of bread and jam - you can't beat the freshly baked bread from a real boulangerie. Our first stop was La Gacilly, about a thirty minute drive from Malestroit, in order to see the photo festival that is held annually in the attractive town. The photographs were not only stunning visually but also thought provoking with the overall theme being Japanese. Most interesting and also totally free of charge. Heading across to the coast we called in at Rochefort-en-Terre, a very pretty but also very touristy village before arriving at Damgan. The beach/bay at Damgan is lovely and the little town, whilst busy with holidaymakers, still very much retains the French character. Damgan made for a nice 'frites and ice cream' type of stop although there are plenty of other eateries available too. The final stop of the afternoon was at Penn Lan and the Rochevilaine Hotel which has great views over the sea and has excellent toilets too - something lacking in Damgan! As my mum and Chris were flying back from Dinard Airport to East Midlands Airport on the Tuesday this meant heading north on the Monday to drop them off at a hotel in the popular seaside resort. Dinard is a very pleasant place to visit and also linked to St Malo (worthy of a visit too) by a ten minute boat trip. Back in Malestroit we had plenty of house type tasks to complete before our final evening in the town until October. Our evening meal was at Le Grain De Sel where we met up with friends Geoff and Liz who live close to Malestroit. That finishes one of the four corners of France that this trip has become - the north west - so we can now head back over to the north east Champagne-Ardennes area and the city of Reims.
