Wow, what a contrast! Yesterday was blistering hot but today I needed to dust off the fleece and utilise it. Not only that but I also needed to zip the legs back onto my trousers before venturing out for the evening.
Today was another long driving day, so I left early and revisited the bakery in Havelock for a big brekkie. I then continued south down the SH1. The day had started with a little cloud and fairly warm but when I reached the east coast the cloud had thickened and a strong wind was blowing in from the ocean or, to be more specific, The Pacific.
I took a coffee and cake break at Kaikoura, where it was mighty windy and chilly, before continuing to Christchurch Airport to pick up a new travelling companion for JB and myself as my brother joined us for the remainder of our trip.
We'll be exploring Christchurch at the end of our adventure, so we made for our overnight destination in Geraldine where we were due to view the night sky at the Geraldine Observatory.
This observatory is the project of one guy, Peter, and he is happy to show visitors around and explain all we'd need to know about the stars, so we were set for a real treat. However, the blanket cloud coverage unfortunately meant it had to be cancelled.
Looking for an alternative, we checked out the cute looking Geraldine Cinema, but decided to forego the option of watching 50 Shades of Grey. Instead, we had a lovely meal at The Village Inn. After sharing a camembert starter, I went for pork ribs while my brother enjoyed bluecod and salmon.
Today I drove 570km, but from now on we'll be sharing the driving.
