Today we left and extremely WINDY Port Hedland headed for 80 Mile Beach... and boy that head wind was blowing!!..
Our original plan had been to go to Cape Keraudren for some supposedly awesome beach fishing then on to Barn Hill Station before hitting Broome, but after doing some thinking the plans were changed. Cape Keraudren is only about 150km north of Hedland and Barn Hill only about 100km south of Broome therefore making for 2 really short days of travel and one exceptionally long day... hence the change of plans and split the journey straight down the middle with 80 Mile Beach being about slap bang in the middle.
Unfortunately 80 Mile Beach is grey nomad retirement village of the north so it was bumper to bumper, we did secure two good non powered sites though (we were promised power the next day but really couldn't be bothered shifting once we were set up)... It was here we discovered that the wind wasn't isolated to Port Hedland it appears it is affecting every coastal community from Broome to Kalbarri!!!... and it blew and it blew..
Boys were a little disappointed as 80 Mile offered our first real chance for fishing.. not to be discouraged Daddy and Pop loaded up the Patrol and off we set down the beach.. not even a bite!... some quick shell collecting then back to camp ...
Sunday saw our second roast (just because we could) and the boys have met a couple of rather "energetic" boys from NSW called Kobe and Josh... these 4 became constant companions for the next 3 days... They terrorised the caravan park, Kobe & Josh on their bikes with Kane most often on foot in fast pursuit... Their one big discovery "The Shell Shop" where a wonderful old lady collects shells to make animals and gives them away to the kids complete with a necklace to match... the boys were so excited Kane with his little owl and Jacob with a massive Kangaroo!!!.. (this was to later cause tears when Mark dumped the washing on it and knocked off the poor Kangaroo's legs and half removing it's Joey! (nothing some liquid nails didn't fix lol)
Our last full day at 80 Mile Mark and the boys had been adventuring in the car in the morning and located a creek off the beach that was rumoured to be a good fishing spot... before setting out we ventured out on the low tide to walk as far out as we could.. that was surprisingly a long way!!!.. pictures on Pop's camera to follow... we messed around on the tidal flats for a bit, discovering live shells with the snail like creatures inside them as well as real live crazy crabs and some bizarre looking prawn thingy! (only way it can be described).
Quick bite for lunch then off to the end of know where to try and catch a big fish (first mistake we took Nan) although it was explained how far we were going she wasn't at all impressed with either the distance or the soft sand terrain we covered on the way due to the now HIGH tide.. I do believe the words ridiculous, oh lordy, oh dear were heard more than once amongst many conversations about why we couldn't just fish off the shore at the park... Either way wouldn't have mattered we caught nothing lol
Pack up.. lets move to Broome :)
Note: invaded again!.... Pop's turn this time... camped right opposite us a man from MOT seriously people have you got nothing better to do than invade my holiday!
