Day one... first things first who packed the phone charger for the telstra phone??? more importantly who decided they would clean out the console fo the car and remove the car charger for the telstra phone?? that would be DAD
Mum to the rescue, switch it into Dad's normal phone.. we're back up and running just as well considering we have not had Crazy John coverage since we hit Bindoon
Rumour has it Kane made it to Russell Rd before asking "Pop, how far til the camp ground?"
First stop New Norcia for some fresh bread, and time to insert a couple of giggles..
1. No Nan we cannot visit the Monk's to see where they sleep and live.
2. After a discussion about Monks with the boys Kane announced if they can't touch girls that's just wierd!
Next stop Dalwallinu for lunch, once I promised Nan if she screamed when she went to the toilet I would come and rescue her from any "strange" people that might come in there we were all happy... little argument between Nan & Pop over who did or didn't pack the sugar but everyone else was happy with food in their bellies.
Back on the road and and starting to consider camp sites... Now those of you that know Mark well will know that he has an amazing ability to ask me to refer to the map book a million times always waiting until I've tucked it away in the side pocket before asking me to refer to it again!... Tossing a coin do we camp south of Wubin in a designated camp ground with toilets for Nan or move on for at least another hour and get the other side of Paynes Find...
First "life threatening" experience for Nan!!.. we were waved around two over sized loads that took up the best part of the highway way. Now to say we'd seen enough of these already would be an understatement. We had literally been caught behind them 3 times, every time we stopped for a break they over took us etc etc you get the picture! Heading into Paynes find big long straight road and the escorts start waving us all through. I do believe we could hear Nan screaming from 40m further down the road and the police escort would have been checking if his sirens had come on, she did declare later in the night it was the most terrified she'd been in her life and it was irresponsible of the drivers to wave us through [insert giggle here]
Our first camp site is in a parking bay just north of Paynes Find set back off the road a little just enough that we couldn't feel the draft caused by the road trains but certainly close enough to hear every one of them go past. Light the camp fire, get the burgers cooking and we were all in bed by 7:30pm (yes you read that correctly)
It was freezing cold but thankfully the quilts and blankets were sufficient and Mark & I of course had the beneift of our little human sized hot water bottles that provided us with extra warmth.. I do recall at least twice during the night waking to Kane having his usual cuddle!! (those of you that know Kane will know exactly what I'm talking about)
