What an amazing part of the world...
first thing first thank you to all the people that told us the roads were going to be horrendous and the track into Middle Lagoon would pose a challenge, I'm thinking maybe if you were trying to do this in a Diahatsu Charade but in 2 4wd's we didn't have any issues. Granted some parts were pretty heavily corrugated but no where near what we were led to believe and we didn't need to use 4wd at all.
Arriving at Middle Lagoon was an experience and a bit of a giggle... for those of you that don't know all camp grounds on the Dampier Peninsula are owned and managed by the local Aboriginal Communities..
Enter the store... greeted by a very friendly but very young I would say 14-15 year old girl... tell her who we are... puzzled look...
young girl..... so you booked through the information centre
us.... yes
young girl.... mmmmmmmm you want power ok you can have site 2 and 2a.. 2a should be empty, yes i think it's empty mmmmm yes maybe I don't think anyone is there, you should be right yes use 2a as well...
guess what.. 2a not empty lol.. a beautiful spot but organisation is not their forte to say the least... no clear site markings it was more like find a spot that is near a pole that has an empty power point... mission accomplished and we have set up camp
