Grey Nomad Meca of the World... the wind had finally dropped and we could finally take our jumpers off.. Broome weather this time of year would certainly be close to perfect
High 20's for our 4 night stay, the Broome Caravan Park is gorgeous, not the flashest of facilities but clean and friendly with a great COLD pool, not that the kids minded
We spent the first afternoon venturing through China Town, got a glimpse of time gone by at the Sun Cinema truly amazing that it has stood the test of time also found some "can't be pronounced" asian store that get this had carton upon carton of the glutenous rice flour that I have searched in supermarkets for!!!.. Vi you would be proud I bought 3 packets :) - our plan is to test out your recipe when we venture up the peninsula...
Wednesday saw us take off in search of dinosaur foot prints, which we knew we wouldn't find as they are only visible at tides lower than about 1m which only happen a couple of times a month so we had to settle for the concrete casts and a view back to cable beach...We then ventured down to the port for a quick sneak peek just because you have to really (wharfies wife grrrrrrrrr) amazaed again at the north west tidal movements and the longest boat ramps in the world..
Now.. at this point Mark has become a little concerned over the very irritating noise that has been coming from under our car since venturing on some very corrugated roads in Karijini.. although he kept snappy at me that they were nothing to worry about he's decided maybe he should get it checked (enter male pride and ego!!).. So quick call to the RAC and the car is off the road for a few hours.. kids enjoyed a swim and some quiet time (I do believe the first time the DS's had been switched on since our first day of driving)... Car fixed! rock in the brake calipers so nothing serious just noisy... Down to cable beach for a squiz and much to the dissapointment of the boys no camel ride today...
Ducked into the information centre to see if we could book a Willie Creek Pearl Tour and see what the road conditions were like up to Cape Levique (Pop was still a little concerned about the X-trails ability to make the journey. Awesome staff member gave us all the information we needed booked us on our Pearl Tour for Friday morning and got us on our way... slight technical hitch Cape Levique was off the agenda as it was booked solid until 27th July (I couldn't see the issue i was prepared to wait!) so Middle Lagoon it is smaller more basic facilities and 30km of dirt road to get in but the girl assured us with Mark's 4WD abilities the road would be rough but certainly no issue for Pop.
Thurdsay - up at the crack of dawn!!! too early for Nan so she's left behind, Dad, Poppy and the boys are off to ride their camels.. quite an experience - bit of a bargain we chose the only company to add morning and afternoon rides with kids ride free with a paying adult so basically saved ourselves $60 and Poppy gained a sore butt :) Kids had an awesome time came home with a few souvenirs and have heard numerous time since from the Toad... I miss Rodney (aka CAMEL)
Mummy also got some ME time today :) caught up with the most amazing and gorgeous Sonia for morning tea a good gossip session, nothing more therapeutic!!!.. just wasn't long enough
Afternoon more wildlife interaction and a tour through the Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Park, not the fanciest park known to man but certainly well run and very informative.. Jacob was most impressed with the guides knowledge of salt water crocodiles and particularly that they knew the scientific name was crocodylis pyrloris!!
Friday off to Willie Creek... what a worthwhile tour.. Jacob's amazement once again that the guide knew the scientific name for salt water crocodiles (imagine that!!) and his new found knowledge that basically in simple terms pearls grow under the nuts of an oyster (gonads for those with more scientific names).. awesome tour and awesome tour guide and not to mention the best damn damper recipe I have ever tasted (will be on the menu when we get to light our next camp fire!)
Back to reality back to packing up camp.. quick fish and chips stop on Cable Beach for our last Broome sunset and off to sleep.. last night in Broome.
Note: ok 2500km from home... MOT people are still following us.. as well as we seemed to have camped next to the exact same people from 80 Mile... (rumoured to be a strange family from a Bretheren cult according to Nan due to the fact they have 5 daughters that strangely enough all wear skirts??? how odd)
