5 days photography down the drain!!!! My memory card has corrupted and half of the photos I have taken in new York are lost to the ether (unless photo recovery software works a miracle). So instead of my planned sightseeing this morning I hung around a radio shack waiting for it's hung over couldn't care less employee to open the shop late to get a new memory card ( no tip for him!). Later today a much nicer man recovered what he could to disk and I got to see what I had and what was missing. I returned to the MET to retake all the pictures I took yesterday, and it was no real hardship to have to look at all that glorious art again. I moved hotels (dumped bags and ran as I was too early to check in). I went to MOMa to look at more glorious art (the picture of starry starry night by Vincent van gogh was the real one), more Matisse, salvidor Dali, Frida kahlo, Picasso and monets massive waterlillies painting! Am now recovering from my crappy start to the day in their cafeteria which sells lambrusco by the carafe and tira misu!
Checked into my hotel and it is a very nice boutique 4 star with the most comfortable bed and pillows! After the horror stories I heard about new York hotels I have had two really stylish and spacious rooms in boutique hotels a couple of blocks away from restaurants in residential areas, much preferable to the tourist circus areas.
I went to the empire state building for more great city views, and you can't really come to new York and not do this. The queue took 45 mins and I was told this was quick. Tick that off the list.
Am warming up in a local steak house, trying Mexican style skirt steak with chimi churri sauce and black beans, which is one of the best meals I've had in NY. Half way through my new York trip and still so much to do!

Jane Glad to hear you're living like a visitor rather than a tourist! Bummer about the memory card - I know how important photos are to you. Make sure you check out Greenwich Village & SoHo - just wandering around is the best way to do this.. Take care xx
Sharon Aird Happy to hear the accom was good. I struggled with food in NY too - do you think the good places get lost in the masses.
