So who am I?
I think a lot of people ask themselves that same question, well my name is Geoff Palmer and at the time of writing this I am 27 and working as a Technical Support Agent for Toshiba, I live in Heavitree in Devon and love living in this part of the country. There is always something going on in town or in the local area. The other benefit is how close i am to the coast. Just a short bus ride or cycle and I'm in Exmouth next to the sea, Exmouth can be either really beautiful or terribly ugly, But for the most part it is a very scenic part of the Devon coast.
I have worked across the UK and Europe in many different roles and i have visited a lot of different countries, yet there has always been something missing..... That real sense of accomplishment.
So I've finally set myself a goal, I'm going to Cycle from John O' Groats to Lands End. I've never been much of a cyclist but I thought it was time I did something major with my life and what better than to JOGLE for the RNLI!!!! :) As I live near the coast I know how hard these brave men and women work to help keep our coastline safe. They venture out in all weathers and risk their own lives to save others in distress.
So with the stage set i had to decide on the finer details..... Solo or in a team? Supported or unsupported? East coast or West coast? Well i decided that as it was a once in a lifetime experience (I hope) i would need to do it properly... Solo and Unsupported.
This has benefits as well as faults... The benefits are that it is a bigger achievement (in my eyes) to be able to complete the challenge without support or team mates, it also means that accommodation is easier as i can go as far as i fancy and just pop in somewhere rather than looking for somewhere with Two rooms.
on the downside i may well go crazy. I'm aiming to cycle around 60-70 miles a day.... with just myself for company, this means about 8-9 hours battling the rain and wind talking to myself. on the low days i am thinking it may be very hard to push on to the finishing point for the day.
So this is me. A slightly crazy IT geek that wants to make a difference....
Let the journey begin.....
