The last stand....
Ok so that might be a little melodramatic but it is the last stand before the big sit... 8 hours a day in the saddle is going to be interesting!!
We left Edinburgh this morning at arround 10:00 which was nice especially as i was up at 7:15!!! I guess the 7am alarm on my phone wasnt quite turned off but bacon butties x2 sure made up for that!
The drive up was again... Interesting however that was for a completely different reason... As we headded fiurther north onto the A9 my father decided to pipe up and remind me..."you see how long this downhill section is? You'll be going up this"
That's when the penny dropped, Tomorrow morning 01/07/2012 at 09:00 i will be starting my cycle ride from John O' Groats to Lands End... My goal... To finish the nearly 1000 miles in 16 days and come out the other end in one piece!!
We drove a further 260 miles morth of Edinburgh to JOG where this will all start. As we reached the last summit before the decent into JOG we saw some RAF chaps who had just made it. Their celebrations made me realise what a challenge this would be for me.
Just to put this in perspective... Every day i will be riding for approx 8 hours regardless of rain, wind, shine etc. keep this up for 16 days straight and you get the picture :)
Tomorrow is my first day in the saddle do am aiming to start easy with 55ish miles from JOG to Helmsdale, ther are some big hills but need to start getting used to that eh?
Well it's only 21:12 but i'm in bed with everything all kitted and ready for tomorrow.
Let the journey begin....
