Cesky Krumlov, Czech it out! Aimee here again, hijacking the blog for the second time in a day! Our plan of getting up early to attack the day went about as well as it has every other time we optimistically plan for it, and me and Gemma left Hostel Merlin around lunchtime. We proceeded to have breakfast and lunch within five minutes of each other (om nom nom) and headed up the hill for our scootering adventure! We went up that high that my ears popped twice while in the van, sweet scenic views on the way up too. Gemma's hopes that we would get a map were dashed as old mate driving the van would occasionally just point down a certain path and say "don't go that way..." Excellent, cheers for that. Got dropped at the top with "Gary" the green scooter and Gem's scooter, "Danger". Kind of appropriate considering the clunking noises it made the whole way down, but at least she didn't lose a wheel! All round epic experience, no helmets or padding and just hooning down the hill for about 13km, getting the speed wobbles we were going so fast! We think the "downhill scootering" hairstyle is going to be seen on the runway of this years New York Fashion Week, watch out for it! The models might also have a few bugs up their noses, occupational hazard unfortunately!
Back into town feeling a bit squiffy after all the food followed by the extreme sports, nothing better to fix it than an ice cream Czech styles! Randomly I think mine had egg in it. After retrieving Rachel and Zara we were off on one of the river rafting pub crawls we had heard so much about! I think other people might stop at more than one pub but we got slightly waylaid at our first one with Robert our host, who told us we could call him Robbie Williams and plied us with drinks at his bar while Puff the Magic Dragon played in the background. Rowing our boat gently down the stream became even more fun after this, and despite Zara's concern that she would fly out over the rapids we all made it to the end in one piece, to the tune of Robbie Williams "Angels" being warbled from the back of the raft.
We continued our pub crawl on foot, eventually making it back to the hostel and heading out again to drink at the Busabout hostel up the way. All round very impressed with the 12% beer they've been serving here, and at around NZ$2 a pint refills at the bar are frequent! At the hostel bar we demonstrated our skills (or lack thereof in some cases) at cards, with the winner getting to "brand" the loser of each hand with an ash covered cork. Me and Zara walked back clean faced, while Gemma resembled a small marsupial and Rachel's moustache rivalled the Führers!
