Can't believe we went to Wimbledon! Can't believe I saw Rafa in the flesh! Is so surreal. Had the most amazing day, can not even begin to describe how awesome it was (will try....)
Had very little sleep - we all woke up at 3am freezing cold (there was whimpering...) then the organisers woke us up at 6am to pack up our tents and move into a proper queue. Line had grown massively since we went to bed with people arriving in the early morning. As we were 1521 and 1522 in line and Rach and Zara were 1572 and 1573 we were hoping like crazy that we could get court 2 tickets (having resigned to the fact that there was no way we would get court 1 or centre). When men came down line with wrist bands for court 2, there was a lot I'd excitement! Line weaved all the way from the camping field through Wimbledon Park - took us 4 hours from the time we got up until we brought our tickets! Cost £52 for court 2 -100% worth it. While waiting in line, Aimee and I got interviewed for radio Wimbledon....having been woken very early were not in optimal state to be answering questions...A brief overview: "who are you supporting?" "Federer" "why?" "because he's number one" - Aimee. "who do you think is going to win?" "Nadal" "what about the knee injury he got in the last game?" "uhhh (unaware of knee injury) he'll be fine..." - Gemma. Not our finest moment in the limelight! Finally made it through the gate around 10am, had a squizz in the souvenir shop, got ice-cream with chocolate sauce and caramelised nuts then could go check out the courts when they opened at 10.30. Couldn't believe how big Wimbledon was! And really pretty with flower baskets and gardens and grass. Was already sweltering hot by this time so chilled out before the game started on court 2 at 1pm. Venus Williams vs Jarmila Groth - had amazing seats sideline in line with the baseline in the third row back! Could see the sweat beads on Venus's back!! She was super tall and had the longest legs ever. So cool she was a couple of metres away from us. Court 2 is commonly known as 'the Wok' because you fry in there....we can say with certainty this is very true. Sweat monster ratings were through the roof, had to stand up between games to let sweat evaporate from behind knees. Charming. After game wandered around, got some food and debated what we should do for the next game. Went to the resale line where you can get tickets that people give back when they leave for £5. However, line was massive and about 4 hours long so asked some Asians near the front if they wanted court 2 and if they got court 1 we would swap. They did! At the time we assumed they wanted to see Rodd*** - quote "but they're Asian..." "they're American Asians" - Gemma. Found out later that Rodd*** was actually playing the Taiwanese guy! Oops, haha. Anyway, I was so excited that we were going to see Rafa I was shaking! Went and got strawberries and cream (wimbledon tradition - would have been wrong not to). Only had two tickets so Aim and Zara went to the Rodd*** game and Rach and I went to court 1...YEAH! Saw the last hour or so of Djokovic and Hewitt then what we had been waiting for.....AAAHHHH. Could probably get a job as a paparazzi the number of photos I took when he came onto the court. Great game, Rafa won in straight sets, still in awe we were there! Caught tube back to Generator - exhausted.
