Woke up this morning to unappealing task of finding somewhere to stay tonight; finally found a place called Hostel Xberger not too far from the city and went on another international public transport adventure, this time navigating the S- and U-Bahn. Put our stuff in the hostel there then caught the train in to Brandenburg Gate to go on a walking tour. Our guide was Barry from Ireland - he was really good, went to the Reichstag (parliament building), Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe (2711 concrete columns in rows over rolling ground), stood over the former site of Hitlers bunker where he killed himself, Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall, Bebelplatz - the site of the first Nazi book burning (Berlin fashion week was also on here so did some unsuccessful famous people spotting...failed) and some other temple church buildings. Am beginning to see where the term ABC (another bloody church/castle) tour of Europe comes from! PS. Castles are awesome! Finished 4 hour tour with the story of how the Berlin wall came down.
