Tales From Two Hobbits
Hey peeps new pics on here too!
Wednesday 14th March 2007
Today we drove from Beenleigh back to Surfers Paradise, in search of some work at Draculas Caberet. Murphy's Law had it that once in Surfers we received two calls from agencies in Brisbane, stating that they had work there! Arghhh! We decided that as they couldn't guarantee to hold any temporary work for us we wouldn't waste the time travelling all the way back on the off-chance. Instead we decided to cheer ourselves up by buying two 14-day Super Passes for Movieworld, Wet 'N' Wild and Sea World. It's funny how a bit of retail therapy always manages to lighten the mood!
We drove to Wet'N'Wild, gathered our towel etc and locked the car... only to discover that the damn car's OSR door wouldn't lock! Typical. Of course we couldn't leave the car, as all of our worldly possessions are in it, so we had to drive straight to the nearest garage. We finally found someone who said that he could fix the car, but it'd cost $220. We spent the whole afternoon day dreaming about having fun on the water slides, whilst sitting in a grotty garage with only magazines from 2005 to keep us amused. After a few hours the mechanic said that he couldn't get the new part to work so we would have to take the car away and bring it back the next day! Like we aren't in a rush to drive the 8,000km left for our journey's completion or anything?! Still, the scary lay-by we found to sleep in was only about 20kms away and was free so that's something.

We went back to the garage today after discovering that the car door had miraculously started working over night. We'd have not gone back, but they'd held back some of the doors components so we had to go back. After paying the $220 and saying our goodbyes to the lovely staff at the garage we headed straight to Sea World. We saw the most amazing dolphin display, which lasted about 15 minutes, where the dolphins were jumping 10feet into the air. It was incredible. Sea World is far smaller than it's American equivilent (Darren has been to both) and you can easily see everything on display within a full day. The highlights were the Polar Bear enclosure and a show featuring various Seals.
I thought that I lost the angel pendant from my silver St Christopher necklace that 'The Knapp' family from America bought me when I was 18. I hadn't taken it off since we left England and I was gutted. In fact I burst into tears, which is rather unlike me (over material things at least). Thankfully Darren found it in the car. I was so relieved. Funny how emotionally attached you become to things.
We spent the night in a lay-by near Mt Tamborine. It was rather concerning as we were on a bend at the bottom of the mountain, which was actually designed to allow for trucks etc who haven't breaked hard enough to clear the bend. I had visions of us being swidged underneath an 18 wheeler!

Today we headed to MovieWorld. Although the park is not that big the atmosphere there is fantastic! They boast 3 BIG rides: Superman Escape, Batman SpaceShot and Lethal Weapon, along with a 4D Shrek Adventure, a Scooby Doo Rollercoster, a Wild Water Canyon and various others. Many movie 'stars' parade around the park and Darren got chatted up by 'Marilyn Monroe'. He was rather happy about it! After 6 hours of promising Darren that I wasn't going on the big rides I was finally persuaded to go onto Superman Escape, which is a rollercoster that blasts you up to a speed of 100km p/h in two seconds! We had to sit in the 2nd row as well, which didn't help as I wanted to disappear in the back rows somewhere. After nearly backing out I found myself being propelled into space and actually enjoying it! After my personal triumph we went on the Batman SpaceShot, which is a tower that thrusts you high into the air at top speeds and with 4.5G's of force! We had a fantastic day walking around and absorbing the positive vibe from all of the staff.
Spent the night at Mt Tamborine again.

We went to Wet'N'Wild today and it's my favourite park We spent the day enjoying the weather (about 30 degrees) and using all of their water slides. I was too chicken to go on one steep slide but I found the rest to be brillant! Our favourite was called 'The Tornado' and was shaped like a funnel. You had to go down together on a dingy and it sent you down a steep pitch-black tunnel into the opening of the funnel. You get totally soaked and the tickle in your tummy is worthy of several rides carried out consecutively! After sunset on a Saturday the park puts on a new-release film and you lounge about, either in or out of the pool and watch the movie. This week's movie was called "A Nativity Story' and was a very serious film depicting the birth of Christ. It wasn't a film that I'd go and buy but it was nice to see a film under the stars. We stayed at Mt Tamborine and I couldn't sleep. I miss the tent!
Sunday 18th March 2007
We had a day off the Theme Parks today to carry out fun chores such as cleaning the car and visiting a launderette to clean our clothes, as I swear that given a couple more days our garments would have grown tired and walked themselves there! We tried to go for a walk at Coombabah Lake, but the perimeter was like a swamp and was unaccessible. We saw a huge red kangaroo bounding across the moss but didn't fancy our chances of copying it.
I spoke to sister Jodie to wish her a Happy Mummy's Day and Darren spoke to Mumma Frost. Jodie's doing great and it was really good to hear her voice as I miss her so much. I couldn't get hold of my Mum so will try again soon.

We went to a charity shop this morning and I found a cheap dress and shoes for $7! Hooray! I feel like a woman again! We decided to visit MovieWorld again today and I went on all of the scary rides this time. Lethal Weapon is my favourite as your legs dangle down and you feel safer as the harness fixes across your whole body, rather than the Superman ride, where you hold onto a little bar at the front. The Lethal Weapon ride is exactly like the Nemesis ride at Alton Towers. Darren actually got me on all of the rides twice! In the evening we went to our new rest stop- a lay by about 4kms from the parks! It is in the best location ever, but as it is by a water treatment tank it smells worse than Darren after a week of sleeping in the car! :)
Tuesday 20th March
Today was spent at Wet'N'Wild carrying out the same antics as on the 17th!
Wednesday 21st March
We went to SeaWorld again and had a glorious day watching the shows and going on the rollercoster there called The Corkscrew, which sends you round a few turns so slowly that you could literally read a book whilst going round the 360degree turns. Darren and I were talking all the way round and it made us laugh that we could hold a conversation. It was a great ride and I enjoyed it more than some at Warner Bros.
In the evening we went to see the new Simon Pegg movie 'Hot Fuz'. We're both massive fans of his previous series 'Spaced' and his debut film 'Shaun of the Dead'. We bought the tickets online as we were told it was cheaper and discovered that my internet banking has stopped working, along with my Vodafone account, which has taken 40pounds out of my account but hasn't actually topped up my phone! Arggghh! To make things even worse and make up the '3' in bad things to happen in a row, Darren had his Visa card eaten by an ATM in the cinema. The unhelpful bratt behind the counter told us with glee that 'There's nothing we can do. Contact your bank in England' (In other words 'I'm incompetant and can't be bothered to even look friendly, let alone have the brain capacity to HELP you') We had to call the bank, who will issue a new card to Mumma Frost's in 7 working days, then she will have to send it to us in Oz and I'm guessing that 'WEV 650, Falcon, Somewhere near Surfers' won't help Mr Postie.
'Hot Fuzz' was a good film. It's a blatant micky take of action Police films, like 'Gross Point Blank', 'Die Hard' and 'Commando'. It's really gory too, like 'Shaun of the Dead'.We both wish that we'd have watched it in a better mood but Simon Pegg has a way of cheering up any situation.
Thursday 22nd March 2007
Today we went to Wet'N'Wild to use their showers before our interview at MovieWorld, for temporary Food Assistant positions. I wore my 'new' old dress and Darren bought a shirt, which he wore with his jeans. He also had a wet shave! It's the first time in at least a year that i've seen him without stubble! He looks great at the moment and he doesn't exfoliate my skin when he kisses me! (Note to people reading- please add on the blog that he should keep shaving for while...) The interview went well. We had to speak about our relevent experience, in front of a group of 15 or so. It was really nerve wrecking and it felt bizarre to have an interview when i'm still employed at home. We find out tomorrow if we have been successful. If we are then we shall have work for the whole of April, then will have 5 weeks to travel up to Cairns, across to Darwin then all the way through the middle of Oz. That is a monumental journey and we're praying that we've given ourselves enough time. Still, the money will come in handy and will pay for the fuel needed for the rest of the trip, so fingers crossed our luck will take a turn for the better...
