Hey everyone
We moved in to our house on Sunday and I wasn't quite prepared its huge and so beautiful, but I dont know how to feel about it, it feels very strange to be out and about among some of the poorest people an the world and then you go back to your very large mansion of a house, and its not situated out of the way either, its right next to tiny wooden shack like buildings!
I had my first moto dop experience too, we went to buy helmets, it was really good fun, but their driving is crazy! They drive through petrol stations to cut the corners and they quite often just drive on the wrong side of the road, it doesn't seem a problem here, imagine driving like that in England!!!I haven't plucked up the courage to go side sadle yet for exactly these reasons!
At 4o'clock we had our first Khmere lesson with our teacher Shrey Phol, it was quite a laugh because we were all absolutely useless, but we gave it our best shot and I have been practising with the locals since and its getting better!
Sunday evening one of the previous volunteers took us down to the lake side for dinner it was gorgeous, the restaurants were all on stilts and all the buildings on the other side were lit up so the views were beautiful!
My first day at work on Monday was really good, everyone was so welcoming, and just wanted to be with you and show you how to do things all day, they have been teaching me some khmere words (or trying anyway) and I taught them the english equivilent. I spent most of the day just helping them cut out patterns for bags and purses and tidy up the shop.
When we got back it was a quick change and then off to a party at JCA orphanage where Cat had been working. We got through the gates and were taken hold of by the children straight away, so we sat down and ate with them, which I later discovered was frog, but it tasted good! They then showed us their rooms and classrooms, so basic but they made such a big thing out of it its incredible. We then taught them games like pass the parcel and musical statues, they loved it. They put on a hip hop dance show for us which was really good and then they taught us Khmere dancing! The kids just wanted to dance with us all night, so we did, it was such an amazing night everyone was so happy and all the kids are so cute, I wish I could bring everyone of them home!!!
Back at work again today and really enjoying it, ive been making a purse and will also be doing a traditional Khmere blouse. I also helped teach an English lesson just before lunch, they pick it up so quickly!
Anyway better get back to work, its tipping it down outside, so on with the very sexy waterproofs and a very fast walk back!
Love and hugs to everyone
