Day 27: We leave Broome with some great memories, but I'm not sure I'd rush back here as the grey nomads do. But each to their own.
We are traveling to a little-known camp/fishing spot, 5kms west of Willare Roadhouse, which is on the way to Derby. Our friends, Bruce and Annie, are with us, as they are heading to Derby and then onto the Gibb River Road.
So we turn off the highway and the van has the opportunity to enjoy a couple of kilometers of dirt. And she's doing great until we come to a dry crossing. Craig and Bruce assess the area, and Craig decides its a goer (I'm of course not so sure). I watch from the bank (yes there are banks!) and all goes well until the draw bar of the van kisses dirt.
So out come the shovels and a little digging later, and removal of a couple of useless bits, she goes down (carefully) and emerges from the otherside...phew!
So we venture on, but there's another impassible crossing, so we find a nice spot on the creek where we are. And it's lovely.
We are fishing by the afternoon on the banks of the beautiful Fitzroy River, enjoying sausages and beer. Craig even catches a Mangrove Jack! A campfire and sharing stories, tops off another exciting day.
Bush camping in a caravan...who'd of thought?
