Day 67: Kinnon & Co. Cobb & Co. stage coach ride, Harry Redford Tent Show and Thomson River Cruise & Light Show Spectacular.
A cold, miserable morning greets us, as we walk to the main street of Longreach, for our morning tea and stage coach ride.
It's unfortunate that the weather is overcast, as Craig, Darcy, Riley and I are up top, at the back of the coach...and it's bloody freezing!
Still, it's a great ride and a wonderful experience...hard to believe that they were still traveling like this only 100 years ago.
Heard of Captain Starlight? Well the story of Harry Redford is pretty legendary around here, and we enjoy a performance by the Kinnon & Co. lads, giving their rendition of an interview of a stockman for Harry's crew. It's a lot of laughs, and good old fashioned humour...like the traveling tent shows of old.
We have the afternoon off, and try to keep warm, as the day progressively gets colder.
At 4.45pm, we are picked up by bus, and taken to the Thomson River for our paddle steamer sunset cruise...not that we will be seeing the sun set.
Back on shore, we enjoy stew and apple pie for dinner, followed by a light show on the river. By now it is drizzling, but it doesn't dampen the mood of the night.
As we stand around the campfire, drinking billy tea and damper, Scotty tells us some bush poetry and yarns...it's a great way to end a great day.
The boys do not want to leave here tomorrow...the stockman and the country life have truly captured them...and us.
Yeehaa...
