Day 65: Powerhouse Museum and Qantas Founders Museum.
We are reluctant to get out of bed this morning, as it is cold, cold, cold! But we have a big day ahead of us, so we hustle and bustle, and get moving.
The Powerhouse Museum is on the same street as our CP, so we walk, and are much warmer on our arrival.
We spend a good couple of hours here, pouring over the old working power station, with Craig telling us how things all worked. A real education. They also had a cottage setup, showing how a typical family in the 1940's would have lived, which the kids found hard to believe. They were particularly fascinated by the dunny, that had the box for removal by the pan man.
After a quick shop, and bite to eat, we headed off to the Qantas Founders Museum, for our 1o'clock tour.
The tour takes us on board a 747 and the first Qantas Boeing 707. And what a great tour it is! The history of Qantas and of the actual planes, and the inner and outer workings, is very interesting...a very worthwhile tour. You'd be amazed at how many things on an aeroplane were invented by an Australian!
Afterwards, we meander (as much as you can with 3 boys) through the actual museum. The collection of memorabilia and the collation of history of Qantas is outstanding...and so interesting. What amazing pioneers Australia had!
It's been a full day of historical absorption, and the boys have done very well.
Who knew Longreach had so much to offer?!
