Day 64: Winton delivers us another cold morning as we pack up and head to Longreach.
It's 180+km drive, and we pass the same dry, desolate pastureland of the last few days. We also see a lot more roadkill, which of course is mainly kangaroos, but also sheep.
When we get to the outskirts of Longreach, we checkout the Rest Area, but decide to stay in town. We check-in at the Longreach CP and setup camp.
We head straight to the Tourist Information Centre, and gather as much info as possible on the attractions of this lovely looking town.
After lunch and much discussion, we decide on a Kinnon & Co. Pioneer Pass, which will get us into all the attractions we want to see, plus a few extra.
We walk the main street, which has been kept pretty much as is, with it's old buildings and wide street. Longreach has a lovely feel to it, a bit modern, but very rich in its country origins. It's interesting to see city trends intermingling with stockman outfits.
Another cold night sees us eating indoors, which I think will be the way every night.
Nothing like being cosy...
