Back in Bangkok and feeling much better, we go for our last group breakfast before going out separate ways. Most of the group are checked in at Centra hotel before their flights tonight so I manage to get sneak in there till I can check in to my hotel a bit later. After getting the last bit of Bangkok sun some of us head for lunch and shopping, not that I need anything and I think Leanne will kill me if I give her anything else to take home for me. Lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe was just a mountain of food that we couldn't eat and was sooooo expensive but I was just happy I could eat again. I bought myself some very sexy walking sandals so I can send my heavy walking boots home, they were £10 and the lady said they were waterproof...people lie a lot here. I enjoyed the signs everywhere that said 'no sitting/no spitting'.
I headed back to the hotel to say my goodbyes and head off for the next leg of my trip. I met a lot of nice people and wish I could take a couple with me for the next bit, others I wish I'd told them what I thought of them and what a shame it was that they'd wasted such an opportunity to experience things....but they missed out wasting their energy on being negative, rude and selfish.
Back at what is starting to feel like my second home - Bangkok Centre Hotel I bump into a familiar face. Alan from my first tour is still here, his English plan hasn't really gone to plan. After flying to Heathrow he was detained by immigration for 14hrs, questioned and sent back to Bangkok because they thought he was going to work illegally...you only have to take a look at the guy to know he has no intention of lifting a finger for the next 6 months unless it's to pick up a beer. Understandably he doesn't have the best views on the English now, but it's good because we got chance to catch up and looks like our tours will cross paths in Koh Samui too.
The new group had 16 people, mostly girls as usual and couples...my room mate is Anmol from Surrey and I think I will like her a lot. She is 18 but doesn't scream or wet her knickers at the most mundane things like seeing a paving slab or a fork... Now don't get me wrong, listening to 4 imbeciles discuss how to say 'Walter' and 'Nutella' correctly for 30 minutes was one of the highlights for me so far, but it's safe to say that if I have to endure such douche bags again I can't be held responsible!
Anyway....I digress....clearly I still have some unresolved issues from week 2-3.
I'm pretty much done with Bangkok, I want to get back to the beach for a few days and then looking forward to Malaysia where it looks like I'll be needing my waterproofs.
So the last day here (because I'm definitely not coming back) I headed out for drinks with Alan and a Canadian guy from his tour who'd just arrived. We went to the backpacker street again, I hadn't seen it in the day, but I can safely say I've done it now and if I never go to Khoasan Road again I'm ok with that.
Overnight train number 6 ... I'll be given my own personal bunk soon at this rate. Turns out Alan and the Canadian are on the train too, nice, the more the merrier. That is until Mr Canada becomes annoying drunken man who feels the need to keep visiting me and shouting Thai words at every Thai person he sees to practice his language skills. He is a nice guy, just the beers and his enthusiasm are a little much. We really hit a low point though when he waltzed over while I was enjoying my subway and packet of crisps and started helping himself! I calmly explained that he should remove his grubby mit which I was willing to bet he'd been touching his winky and not washed his hands all day, if he wanted one he should ask first and he needed to go and wash his hands. While he went to wash his hands I gave myself indigestion stuffing myself to finish it all before he for back. Later on I'm stood chatting to some of the girls away from my seat, I glance over and there he is...sat in my seat...his now clean hands opening up my bag of candy as he called it. I think you can imagine what happened next, I said some very bad words and he was suitably advised that if he touched any of my stuff again without asking first I would punch him in the face. Everyone else found it highly amusing, me included. I know in the morning he'll be back to his normal lovely self and we'll be friends again...but he definitely helped kill some time, very funny.
