Railay was really pretty surrounded by mountains, there are no cars on the island and the only way on is by boat. We had to climb from our boat onto a tractor/trailer that took us to shore.
The rooms were nice here, like little cabins, sea view, pool. First job is always turning the aircon on, it sounded like something was churning in the unit....then it spat a massive cockroach through the vent which landed on my bed! I might have let out a little scream, I had to quickly toughen up though as it wasn't the last one I saw. I was getting quite handy with flip flop squishing them by the end of our stay. The day was obviously spent in the sunshine, we walked to one of the beaches which was a real mission of climbing up and over little walls, climbing fallen trees and wading through almost waist deep water. Luckily it was pretty when we got there, but very busy...why are all these people here, don't they know I want to relax! On the way back we saw lots and lots of monkeys, I didn't like them at all so moved swiftly past them and a big monitor lizard which was much less scary. Dinner was massively overpriced and awful then we went to watch some men throwing fire around in a beach bar. Definitely no health and safety here, just 6 guys throwing fire balls and sticks around which was really entertaining. They even let Leanne have a go, she just kept saying 'this is really hot'!
Tomorrow we head back to Krabi which is the last place before we head back to Bangkok. I'm debating whether to meet my next group on Koh Phangan on day 3, otherwise I'll be heading back to Bangkok on the overnight train, only to hop straight back on the overnight train to go back to Krabi. I can't decide what to do, trying to get in touch with my next tour guide is harder than I'd thought. Then I'd have to make my own way to the island and book 2 nights extra accommodation... I'll decide tomorrow, off to the tractor we go.
