Wow what a place, I didn't want to leave! I crossed the border at 1pm on Saturday and flew out at lunchtime on Sunday, could be one of the shortest visits to a country ever.
This place has so many rules and fines for all sorts of things from not crossing the road properly to chewing gum. I thought it all sounded a bit crazy but the place is immaculate, so different to the other parts of Asia I've been....no dead rats or open drains for you to fall down. Oh and so far no spitting - yey! They drive on the left, use English plugs, most people speak English and people are polite and helpful.
I visited Raffles hotel, I had a look inside but decided the $37 Singapore Sling just wasn't worth it. The underground here is brilliant and takes you anywhere you'd want to go, even I managed to work it out. We checked out the arts complex where bands were rehearsing and then walked over to Marina Bay Sands - wow! This is a really good place to just hang out and enjoy the view, the buildings here are just so big and over the top. I got interviewed by some school girls, they were very cute and asked for my photo and gave me a keyring to say thankyou. Then more walking along the river and back to the hotel to get ready for our big night out in Singapore...our only night in Singapore.
Before dinner we walked to see a light show, I wasn't sure what to expect but was told it was a bit like Avatar? I don't really know how to explain it without making it sound tacky, but it was really really good. Everyone just sat around in this massive garden, there were lots of mechanical trees that changed colour to music. There was also a walkway in the sky between some of the trees, we got a good enough view from the floor.
After dinner we headed for the sky bar for an expensive drink we'd all been looking forward to and bought new dresses for. When we arrived to find some rich toss pots called Peter and Mika had hired the whole bar for their wedding reception it was a tad annoying. So I've been to two sky bars, in two different countries and twice I've not even been able to buy a drink....Sky bars can stick it from now on!!! Some chose to go to the viewing platform instead for $22, I chose a drink by the river instead. I had a pink apple cider, it was the nicest drink I've had since I left home. It came in a wine glass, a third full (a few sips) and cost around £5, now I understand when people were saying we wouldn't be out too late with those prices.
Even though it was brief, expensive and I missed the sky bar again... I still had a great time in Singapore and would definitely come back again.
...oh and this is where they have been hiding all the good looking people/men.
