Thomas cried as his mother left the room, 4 year old Lucy sat on a chair too big for her constantly looking at the window to check her grandmother was still here. Sam jumped up and down and Harry practised his kung fu moves with himself. 14 new students between 4-6 years old, with 5 bad monkeys.
Their first day was an hour and half class with a 10 minute break. The lesson plan consisted of-
' Hello class - Hello teacher '
' How are you? - I'm fine thank you '
' What's your name? - My name is… '
Head, Shoulder, Knee
Cat, Dog, Duck
3 different games, 4 different songs and the 40 minutes is already over.
Each week 3 new flashcards are learnt, 3 new body parts and a sentence, along with the children picking up song lyrics and dance moves quite quickly too.
Some other classes at their 6 month stage you can ask them "Do you like hot dog?" and they respond with "Yes, I CAN" So you ask again, "DO, you like hot dog?" "Yes, I am" Patiently, without wanting to tell them the answer I emphasize and ask again, "DOOOOOO you like, dooo you like hot dog?" "Yes, I do" * HIGH FIVE *
After Freda observing me teach Fox class she couldn't believe how quickly they'd progressed with their answers correct to the my questions. I was so proud to hear this! I knew the children learnt quickly. It's quite amazing, they're amazing but looking over the lesson plans and seeing how much they had actually learnt as a young child in 6 months, I was stunned!

I took Fox class every Tuesday and Sunday, witnessing the bad monkeys calm down, smaller children grow in confidence, especially Thomas who can now be without his mother or grandmother sat with him in the classroom and not even worry if they are looking through the window.
We've had an influx of kindergarten classes recently, a new class every month. With these 2 extra classes a week my schedule has changed and I'll now only teach Fox once a week
A defender dribbles the ball up the line, takes on all the players, dodges the tackles, the barges, keeps running, passes the ball across and the striker heads the ball in very easily. People don't remember the defender who set up the ball, nor all the hard work put in, just the striker who scored. How easy it is for the striker… And that defender, well, it is me; Teacher Emma.
I don't usually say anything when my timetable changes but this time I was gutted, "It's just I've put so much effort into this class" "Well at least you don't have to think of extra games each week now, as you'll only have them once." "I don't mind when they're a class I enjoy and want to teach" Shame.
Apple Tree used to have 4 little kiddies of 2.5 - 3 years old, with their parents sat behind them in class. They learnt extremly quickly considering Jacob still had trouble understanding the concept of running, one leg after each other (cute!)
Coconut will be our largest youngest class with 8 children of 3 year olds and 3 children around 5. I've been assigned them twice a week and it'll be a challenge but a challenge I'll look forward to.
Bruised knees (kneeling) aching cheeks (smiling) sore hands (high five) scratchy throat (talking) stiff back (bending) tired feet (moving) - just some of the freebies in the package of being a kindergarten teacher! But to me, if I don't feel any of that after being at school then it hasn't been a good day :) x
