Today I woke up about 9:30am after a cracking sleep! This room is sooo nice - its virtually silent and pitch black in here, so I slept like a log (plus the 3/4 hours sleep the night before). Mum and Dad knocked on my door as they went to breakfast about 10am...and what a breakfast! It's the best buffet breakfast I think I've ever seen - bread+pastry section/fruit+yogurt/cold meats etc/fry up food/Balinies food/Asia food! Why you would want Asian style curry with your coffee for breakfast is beyond me, but it's there all the same.
We chilled out at the hotel for a while, while we decided what to do, then headed off for Geger Beach. Here I would be able to go surfing, and Mum and Dad could kick back on the beach etc. Unfortunately it was far from a great day weather wise, but still nice at the beach all the same. It was about a 20-30ish minute walk from the hotel as expected. It also turns out it was the beach I had been to last time I was in Nusa Dua with Wesley, Maurice and Bo.
Having camped up on some sun beds the surf looked pretty good on the reef about 500m off the beach. I left Mum and Dad on the beach, and took a boat out to the surf. Having got to the line up it was about 4/5ft with the occasional bigger set. The waves were fun, but a lot were closing out. Also the current was running pretty hard so you had to constantly paddle to maintain position, which I don't like having to do at all.
I got a couple of fun ones, but also got smashed pretty well - one time I lost my boardies to my knees and was swept down the reef on the inside for 15 minutes before I made it back out.
Eventually a front came in, torrential rain and strong winds appeared. I got what turned out to be my best wave of the day, and headed in. The paddle back over the reef and the 500m back to shore was an absolute dog - the water had become very coppy and the current was a nightmare.
Having got back to the beach I found Mum and Dad sheltered in a beach front cafe out of the weather. However the weather soon cleared enough to go back to the sun beds. I then looked after the kit and dossed about, while they went for a walk and explored up the beach.
When they got back we had some really late lunch, and watched a group of surfers via binoculars who had gone out to surf the same reef as me.
Later on as the sun was going down (despite being hidden by all the cloud) we went back to the hotel via a taxi. We came back and had a few drinks at the Pool Bar again (2 for 1 happy hour, it would be rude not to!) and I went for a swim.
It was actually surprisingly cool weather, so I went back to my room and for the first time in way over a year I had a hot bath and listened to music!
Later in the evening we had another nice dinner at the hotel and got a bit of a loose plan for what Mum and Dad want to do whilst in Bali. By 9:30pm we were all back in our rooms and ready for bed super tired.
