Does appear the last 2 days of the blog were both set to the wrong date, 1 day too far forward. So this is actually the 22nd..
Today has been far my best day since the day we drove to Ubud, about 4 days ago! The last 2 nights I have been on sleeping pills, but last night I didn't take any, and you can notice the difference - instead of sleeping through till 9am, I was up about about by 7am today. I felt well refreshed though so I guess I had got enough sleep.
As no one else was about, and I wanted to surf this morning, I walked off down to the beach to check the conditions. It looked ok, and would get better as the tide was dropping out. Echo beach would have been far better, but I decided I was better off having an easy surf to get back into it a bit after my illness, and intended to just go out front.
Having come back and had breakie, Georgie was up and about, so we both went off for a surf together. I think today was Saskia's last day on Antibiotics for her ear infection, so will be in the water again tomorrow.
I surfed for about an hour and a half, and was actually presently surprised when I got a couple of nice waves. I don't seem to have lost the knack too much while not being able to get in the water.
Back in camp I lounged around, and read the last part of the book Mum had sent me as a birthday present. Its only taken about 4 days to read, but it was a great book so I'll have to thank her for it.
About 12 I had a good lunch, as I was hungry after an early breakfast and surf this morning. The 3 of us then decided we would go off to Kuta this arvo to go shopping and explore a bit, as none of us had been there. We hired out 2 Scooters, and this time I had one to myself and Georgie drove Saskia.
It didn't take as long as we expected to get there, only about 20 minutes or so. We parked the bikes down a side road, then the other 2 got some food. Then between 1 and 5pm we just wandered around Kuta shopping and generally exploring a bit. I must admit it was more civilised than I expected on the whole - the main road/one way street was pretty good with shops etc down either side. I had imagined a lot more like market style stalls etc.. I guess that goes to show what happens with tourism! Having said that, the smaller side roads were much more like I expected. I must admit I'm not really a fan though - your just breathing in vehicle fumes, it's hotter and much of it smells pretty off. There are lots of international shops though, mainly Surf brands like Bilablong and Quiksliver.
I managed to get a pair of good reef boots for surfing (the main reason I went), some 'RayBands' for $3 (which seem very real, although they can't be?!) and a stereotypical 'Bintang' singlet. Bargain.
Coming back on the Scooters was BRILLIANT fun! It was rush hour so the trafic was mental, but that just made it all the more exciting. Everything and anything goes, and driving down the pavement behind Gerogie really brough home the craziness!
We got back about 45 minutes before dark, and saw of one the other guys getting his board ready for a surf as we came in, so dropped everything in our room and ran to the beach for a quick surf. It was smaller and fatter than this morning, but good fun all the same and I got a couple so was happy.
The others decided they wanted to go out for dinner, but I was pretty tired after what had turned into a pretty big day, so I ate a the villa and hit the sack by about 9pm.
