I'm writing this 'tomorrow' again..
I woke up still drunk, which was pretty awful. I couldn't just lay in bed feeling like that and couldn't sleep despite being exhausted, so got up and went to the beach. It was about 7am so no one else was about apart from the local fishermen and people out for an early surf. After 1.5L of water and an hour watching the world go by I went back up to the hostel for some breakfast. By this time I was post-drunk and pre-hangover so I used the opportunity to smash a Banana Pancake, Porridge, Fresh Fruit and Coffe breakfast. By the time I was done my stomach was settled for the day, but 'holy hangover' did I have a headache (which persisted until about 5pm).
By this time Saskia was up, but Georgie was dead to the world (for what turned out to be most of the day!). By mid morning we went off for a surf - out front looked crap at high tide with the waves so fat and slow it was long boards only. Instead we walked to Echo Beach 10 mins North, where the river mouth was absolutely pumping, overhead perfect right handers and some barrels. Despite being in a dreadful physical state I had so much fun out there, and got smashed pretty well a few times too.
We came back and had breakfast, then spent most of the arvo watching a film and reading/sleeping in the 'Cosy Corner'. I went for a late afternoon surf by myself while the other 2 slept, and headed back for the same spot as the morning. By this time it was extreme low tide, and despite being a lot smaller looked like fun, with only a handful of locals surfing it. The local Balinise people incidentally just some of the nicest friendly people I have met. Even in the surf where waves are faught for pretty competitively because of the crowd, if you snag one they will be the first to shout and hoot as you ride past it's awesome!
Anyway it turned out the rivermouth actually has a pretty gnarly rock reef under there, of which I had no idea and assumed it was a sandbank. I didn't discover that until I took a wave and came off, only to discover it was about 2/3ft deep and sharp as hell underneath. I was extremely lucky for both my board and I to get away unscathed.
I got back having had a pretty average session, due to being so tentative about which waves to take having discovered it was so shallow. Above Echo Beach is a cafe area, which in the evening Saskia and George discovered did a brilliant BBQ, so we went up there for dinner.
You ordered your main meat, then had a buffet of salads, veg, potatoes and other local food to top up on, all you could eat. I was starving and had; Snapper Fillet, buffet x seconds, and Icecream and 2 drinks... All of which came to about $7/8, it's incredible how well you can eat for so little!
Funnily enough we were all knakered, so came back and cashed pretty early.
