We did leave andratx on the Monday after seeing Pj Heidi, Donna and Peter on Sunday (they drove across from Pollenca to see us). We had a motor to Soller - no wind at all, leaving at a civilised time and using the autohelm all the way - life has never been so easy! On our way up the northern coast of Mallorca John spotted dolphins in a bay, so we headed in for a look. As soon as we were close, the dolphins took it in turns to come and swim with us by the two bows, turning their heads to look up at us! Ellen and Anna were quite excited, John and I were beside ourselves! It was very very cool!!On arriving in Soller (there was less space to anchor than our pilot lead us to believe as new pontoons had been built) we picked a spot amongst some moorings and dropped our anchor (we now use our danforth type anchor as our primary as it seems to hold so much better than our cqr which always seems to land upside down - we may have to doctor it with a swivel). Soller port has a very pretty old fashioned tram which links it to the old town of Soller, built inland so as to be protected from invasion by sea. The port has a pretty beach and lots of tacky shops (where Ellen and Anna spent their pocket money). Ellen decided it was warm enough to swim and made my teeth chatter just watching. She took great delight in running out of the sea and rolling in dry sand until she became a sand monster! Anna is more intersted in making wet sand which she calls mud larks (after a Shirley Hughes poem I think). After getting a weather forecast which predicted some very strong winds, we decided that Soller would get too swelly and was too crowded for us to put out more chain, so we headed off on Wednesday morning to motor round to Pollenca which offered better protection from the wind (and is also where Pj Heidi and co are just now).We had an uncomfortable motor here, made fantastic by another encounter with dolphins! They came and swam with us for a while again, taking it in turns to come to the bow where we were shouting and waving at them! Again it left us all very excited! We picked up a bouy in Pollencawhich was shown to us by some friendly germans who assured us it was a good strong mooring (it certainly looks like it) so we are safely ensconssed for four or five days till the high winds go. So far there have only been 20 - 30 knots but more is expected. The only problem is that the dingy ride to shore is incredibly wet and splashy! We will have to wear full waterproofs or not bother!
