Just a quickie! We left Torrevieja at 4am on Saturday morning and had a lovely sail through a moonlit night. Double Helix hit 14 knots at one point and with the wind on the beam it was fantastic sailing (except for when we happened upon an unlit yellow bouy rather fast and head on! John did the equivalent of a handbrake turn and we missed it!). We arrived in Calpe at around 3pm on Saturday - very picturesque with a gigantic white rock / cliff just next to a pretty marina, and less tower blocks than most of the Spanish coast we have so far visited. Ellen and Anna (Anna with particular gusto) chased birds away, and cleaned up bird poo with their 'car washes' (garden sprayers), and we discovered that our fridge is no easy repair job and we will need a frigiboat repair person at some point. We spent a day there - recovering from our early start the day before and john came down with the flu (actually a cold but he is a man…). We decided to anchor that night as the small and lovely marina was expensive, and after getting anchored in a great spot, the wind changed and we had to up anchor and motor round the big rock to get some shelter. That anchorage (chosen very randomly and in the dark) proved to be good and we all slept well. This morning we decided to carry on towards Barcelona, and planned an easy day to Denia. It began easily, but as we passed some mountainous coastline the winds were flukey, going from about 3knots to about 21 in seconds! We ended up having to head into a short steep bunch of waves for about 2 hours as we zigzagged to avoid the bigger ones, arriving here in Denia at about 3pm. The marina is very posh here - we are lowering the tone as fast as we can! However we do have internet aboard so hence the blog!We are planning to head off tomorrow, continuing our mission northwards, maybe even attempting a 24 hour sail - see how the 'flu' is!
