we are here! here we are! well, that is the packing and moving out and the goodbyes all done now. I have to say, the goodbyes were much much harder than i was expecting, i was and still am so very sad to say goodbye to the close friends we have made in Scotland. These friends have supported us wholeheartedly in making this happen, Sarah and James and Ben put us up for over a week, and even put up with our hectic and random packing and panicking as we tied up endless endings. I have probobaly packed enough toys and books, and certainly more self adhesive velcro spots than i will ever need ( i was obsessed with them during the packing time - however i remain confident that one day they will come into their own). The only thing i wish i had packed is the spanish sim card, the number of which we have put on all our cards - but we were always going to forget something.
The day of departure began with a round of Happy Boat Day and blowing out candles stuck in an apple! Our journey was uneventful, apart from an encounter with 'evil evelyn' the head of security at Prestwick airport who wouldnt let us through as our hand luggage didn't "comfortably" fit in the metal thingy. However, levelheaded John didnt get rude and stropy (as i did - still overwrung with emotion at leaving Sarah behind) and he rejigged all our luggage, filling all our pockets (and hoods) with things and we only had to ditch two toys to make it through. Other than that we had a good time at stanstead and a fairly easy flight to Almeria, arriving at the end of our pontoon in the dark - late on Monday 10th September - Happy Boat Day to us!!
Since then we have managed to unpack everything (nearly) and yes it does all fit (our boat is huge), we have made friends with our American neighbours (their cat is bigger than ours), Ellen has managed to cut a chunk out of my hair (why, what is a chunk mummy?) and Anna has decided that Ellen is her mummy called Sally (and come down with a temperature). So - life as normal, except in a boat, without Johns uni work, and much much incredibly much warmer than Scotland. We are keeping an eye on the weather forecast, waiting for fair winds to take us on our first leg - up to Cabo do Gato. Unfortunately the winds are coming from E, NE for the foreseeable future so we will probably be here for a week or so still. However there is no rush - we have no timetable, so - deep breath in……………..breathe out………..and…..chill……….
