Two very very long weeks have passed. I had written a blog for the week of christmas but felt it was too negative to post because I had a terrible week, I'm trying to talk about more positive things... no one likes to hear complaining.
WEEK 10- Because I am the only stylist on board I guess you could officially say I am the Best Hairstylist on Pride of America. I had some extremely ridiculous guests this cruise but like I wont be sharing those stories.
Christmas eve we had our secret santa gift exchange and ironically my secret santa and I had each other and we went shopping together and bought each other gifts at the same store! Then we did our white elephant game which I brought a can of SPAM wrapped in a mac makeup bag… (sneaky sneaky) and I ended up with some yummy cookies from honolulu and temporary tattoo mustaches! :-{D
Christmas morning I facetimed with my family from my cabin and opened my gifts with them which pretty much made my week! my sister in-law, Lacie, sent me a cute lacy black dress and my parents paid for my plane ticket home for dry dock!! then they opened the box I sent them with hawaiian goodies. Christmas morning turned out much better than I had anticipated I even got to see my niece and she is clapping now! she's getting so big!
Thursday evening I finally got to get off the ship but I didn't feel like doing a thing. I sent out all the rest of my postcards and then met up with my roomie and co worker, Maggie, at the marriot. Maggie's last day is Saturday, she's a very out going tall girl with a pixie cut and has thee blondest natural hair I have ever seen and clear blue eyes. I don't think I will ever get over the fact that her hair is not bleached. It's so sad to see her go but she'll be back soon and I will still be here… we had some sushi and the marriot and then headed to Duke's to meet some other co workers for Hula pie! Hula pie is heavenly!! after dessert it was about 8pm and we headed back to the ship and I knocked out. I slept so well, someone called my cabin at 9:30 and I woke up thinking it was 9:30am and was afraid I was an hour late for work! I rushed to pick up the phone but it slipped and I accidentally hung up on whoever it was then realized it was 9:30 in the evening and went back to sleep.. I still dont know who it was that called. Then in the middle of the night I had my first work nightmare on the ship which I usually get at least once with every job i've had, it must be something stress related. I don't remember the dream but I do remember sitting up in my bed trying to grab something that wasn't there. It was a bit amusing because I had a guest earlier in the week saying that I must do pedicures in my sleep and I laughed and said no but she just proved me wrong.
Fridays I decided are my least favorite day on the ship. It's the longest day of the week. By the end of the day I walked into my cabin broke down and cried to my roomie about how drained I am and how it's so difficult being alone in the salon. it is not an easy job.
WEEK 11- NEW YEARS Week!! wooo... lets just say I had a 66 hour work week alot busier than the christmas cruise. Oddly enough by Friday I didn't feel as drained and I didn't have any difficult guests.
Sunday was one of my evenings off, my co worker Alana and myself went to see Le Miserables! I cried practially the whole movie, it's so good, I loved it! It was nice to get off the ship and just forget about the world for a couple hours.
My roughest day was new years eve, a 13 hour day with guests back to back to back booked solid. I did fine but I was stressed out and explained to my boss that I can't keep doing this on my own. I think I was mostly just worried because I had a bad week prior and was litterally booked soild to the max by the second day of the cruise and the fact it was new years eve and I figured I would be too exhausted to stay up to welcome the new year. My boss ended up talking me into going out because she said if I didnt have some time to relax, get some fresh air and laugh I would be even more tired and she was right. I didn't get off work till ten, got ready and met the rest of the spa team out on the pool deck by 11:30pm. It was actually a lot of fun to be out there, ALL of the crew was allowed to go out on the pool deck and party with the passengers so there was a TON of people out there having a grand ole time. They had a band playing and lights everywhere, hats and noise makers, the hot tubs were full of ice and bottles of champange and when the time came to count down they handed out glasses of champange and welcomed in the new year. I absoultely loved being surround with such a huge crow of people and counting down, it's quite the experience. After a while we headed down to Mardigras where they were having a dance/club going on but there weren't very many people down there at that time so we went to Waikiki bar where they had a DJ and a few people dancing out there. While we were there we fell in love with this old man dancing with his wife, they were having a great time and he was gettin' down! He was adorable, honestly a very handsome man for his age dressed in a suit and tie and dancing to gangnam style and what not. He was such a proper man with incredibly sraight posture dancing away it was awesome. Myself and my co-worker lauren ended up taking a picture with him and his wife just for kicks and giggles. Around 1am I called it a night because I had another 13 hour work day. I was really glad I went out after all. oh PS: dont wear tall heels on the ship, they're very difficult to walk or even stand in when the boat is moving haha. Maggie left me a cute pair of black heels and I decided to wear them for new years in honor of her and fell down a couple of times. It made for good laughs, totally a Maggie thing :P
New years eve and new years day Silvia and I had a gig doing hair and makeup for a photo/video promotional shoot for a company on board from Canada of about 70 women that paid us a good chunk of money, I had a blast doing that.
Thursday seems just like yesterday, Lauren and Anjulia and myself met up to go paddleboarding when I got off work in kauai it was overcast and rainy but the water was still warm and I had a good time even though it was pretty choppy out in the water ugh just being out there on the board and looking at the mountains and the light houses near by it was beautiful I love love love paddleboarding and it was only my second time out there on the water. Is it weird that anything that involves an oar instantly makes me want to sing "just around the riverbend"?
Friday was a long day like always, but even longer because we had inventory and didn't get out of the spa till midnight.
I didnt realize it but it's aready sunday evening, where does the time go?! after this week I will have completed 3 months and will only have 6 months to go! which means only 76 more days till dry dock!!
This coming up saturday I'm getting the privllege of seeing my friend, Lauren Boyd, perform in Wicked in honolulu and can't wait! My boss says I deserve it :D and I'm bringing Amber along with me for her to see it for the first time. Totally looking forward to that.
Some great news is we will be getting another stylist sometime between the 20th and 26th so I'm excited to get help at work. It's the lady who I took the place of and I hear she's great so I'm hoping I could learn a few things from her.
Hope all is well back home, I miss it dearly! & I hear my niece is growing up so fast!! Love you & miss you!
