Europe in a Backpack
Ok, so I spent a couple of days in Glasgow and it was an experience all its own. Somehow, when I booked on hostelworld.com, I ended up booking in a residence hall for the art school at the University of Glasgow. No problem, like being in the dorms again. Except this time with a bunch of artsy fartsy students all talking about their sculptures and paintings due in a couple days. No problem, I made my introductions and they took me a student bar and bought me drinks all night. One thing I learned is that I might not be one hundred percent scottish because the Scots have no rhythm when it comes to dancing and as we all know I am quite the dance machine. Anyways, Glasgow was fun, but when I arrived in Edinburgh, I knew I was home. This place is like no other city in Europe. Very medieval and when I found my hostel to be the closest building to Edinburgh castle, I was smiling ear to ear. After settling in and tossing my bag in the my bed, I did like usual and headed off exploring. First things first, Scotch Whisky tour. This was so incredible. Before, I have been able to drink whisky but never really enjoyed. After doing this tour and learning so much about the different types, I am sure I can tell the the difference. And the best part was, after the tour, they take you to the bar and you can choose any scotch they have and have a tasting for one pound each. I had 5 and could tell the difference in each one. From a single malt of the highlands to the Island variety. One Scotch even had the strongest taste but was followed but a chocolate after taste to ease the pallate. It was such an experience in Scotch tasting and I can taste with the best of em. Anyways. That is just a smile bite of what to expect as I am here for 5 days and am so excited. Will update soon, this girl is giving me the stink eye to get on the computer.
