Europe in a Backpack
So, I have spent three nights in Barcelona. I thought I have seen everything, but each day brings something new. The first day I moved into my hostel, I met a bunch of Australian guys and have been hanging out with them ever since. After the Gaudi day, I spent the next one exploring more parks and then took a tour of the FC Barcelona Stadium. It is a soccer stadium where the star player of Brazil's world cup team plays, Ronaldinho. I didn't plan on going there but everyone says it is amazing. It was pretty cool but just like the stadiums back home. Then I met up with some girls studying in Rome and visiting Barcelona for the weekend. One very hard thing to do is remember name's on this trip because you meet so many people. These girls were both named Katie and it made it so easy. We ended up meeting a couple of there friends and went to some crazy club out in the hills of Barcelona. A local hotspot where not many travellers go. And also where not many people speak english. So I was stuck with one of the katie's because neither of us remember much of the spanish we took in highschool. It was a great night and she actually invited me to stay at they're apartment in Rome for the rest of my trip. The offer sounds kinda nice since it is free rent and then I remember how hot Rome was. No thanks. We left the bar around 7:30 in the morning and went back to the hostel to sleep. I got a nice wake up by the spanish cleaner's at 10 saying we needed to leave the room. So me and the Aussie's left for the day and view another park and the beach before going to the Bullfight at 6:00. I have heard some bad things about them, but it is Spanish culture and I had to check it out. I bought a ticket and a beer with some peanuts and headed to my seat. Kinda like a baseball game. Not so much, the matador's came out and bowed to the crowd. This bullfight was special because once on a month they fight the bulls on horses. The bulls getting stabbed over and over is pretty gruesome and alot of blood. But the way the Matadors fight them and control their horses was amazing. It was really a great experience. Then I had to leave and head back to my new hostel. Later that night, I moved into another hostel and decided to splurge on a dinner while in Barcelona. Some people recommended a place and I am glad they did. Started off with a litre of Sangria, red wine mixed with fruits and ice. The hard thing about travelling alone is most places make portions for two people. Just means I have to consume more. I moved on the soup. A Gispacho cold vegetable soup, but so amazing. And then came the main course. Barcelona is known for their Paella and I had to order it. Although I had to order it for a minimum of two people it was well worth it. Paella is a skillet of rice and spices with prawns, mussels, and spare ribs mixed in with it. The spare ribs melted off the bone. Then the dessert of a creme brulee on top of ice cream on top of chocolate sauce. Best meal I have had all trip. It was unbelievable. Tonight is my last night here and then I am jumping on the bus to Pamplona with some buddies I met in Munich. Adios.
