Europe in a Backpack
So, I survived. We got into pamplona around 5 am and the run was at 8. The party had been going all night long and the streets were filled with throwup and people dancing. It was crazy. I threw my bag in the luggage room and bought a red hankerchief for the look. I was gonna do it. I was kinda nervous, so the first thing I did was buy a 40 of san miguel beer to calm the nerves. Then I walked the running route and got to the starting line. I was gonna do this. Suddenly the cops walked through and weeded out all the drunks in the crowd. Not me though, I met some australian guy and we chatted on how to run the race. He told me to buy a newspaper. The newspaper is not for hitting the bulls, it is for waving in front of them to keep them from going after you. We got our position and waited. All of a sudden the rocket went off, time to start walking and seperating from the crowd. Then the second blast went off. This got serious. The second blast meant the bulls were released. I was on the long run just after the dead man's curve. I waited and saw people starting to panic. Still waiting, I saw the corner and people were running, then I saw the crowd of people round the corner and horns sticking out of the crowd. I started sprinting. People were diving in front of me and I was jumping and kept looking back. I glanced forward for a moment and looked back to see 4 bulls right next to me. My balls dropped at that moment and I became a man, Test of Manhood, Feats of Strength. Everyone told me to run as fast as I could and get in the arena because it closes after the last bull. I made it in and saw the crowd cheering. We celebrated for a moment and saw every door around us close. What the f*** is going on? Then, a bull jumped into the arena and there it starts. The run just warms you up for this part. You are locked in a circle with 300 people and one bull. People taunted the bull and ran away. The craziest part is when the bull runs down the center of the crowd and people start panicing. The bull is running full sprint at you and people are diving left and right. You have to choose a way and choose fast. I dove off and the bull just missed me. This happens four times, the bull goes after the crowd and then is moved off for a fresh bull. Every time a fresh bull comes out, it comes full sprint and jumps over a crowd at the opening. This one time, the bull came out full sprint and a guy froze. It was the best form tackle I have ever seen. Dead in the chest of this guy. The spanish crowd went nuts. This one buddy of mine was running from the bull and jumped onto the wall to get away...People were pulling him down and he was kicking some guy on the ground. He looked down and that wasn't a guy, he was standing on the bull. We all ran up afterward and yelled, WE SAW THAT. Then the bull saw us and we ran away. The arena was seriously the most intense I have ever felt. Anyways, I am in San Sebastian now and relaxing. Adios.
