Well in contrast to yesterday today was a brilliant day, sunshine all day, not too hot & amazing scenery. We had to change our plans as we found that Route 120 is still blocked by snow so we decided to stay another night in Sonora. The roads into Yosemite (a National Park) are wonderful mountain roads, rising to more than 6,000 feet. They are fully tarmaced two-lane roads, but Doreen was not so enamoured with them as in many places there is no Armco or barrier of any sort & most of the time she was on the drop side. Once we arrived in the valley, itself at more than 4,000 feet, the views are truly spectacular. There are high, sheer cliffs & waterfalls all around, one of which is the highest in North America & the fifth highest in the world. I took many photos but they cannot do justice to the reality. We saw a coyote & a small bear in the Park. We finished our visit by driving to the Southern entrance to the Park to view the Giant Sequoia trees at Mariposa Grove. Quite some extra mileage but worth it.
Tomorrow we are hoping to cross the Sierra Nevada on route 88 which the Visitor Centre say is open. I hope they are correct!
Mileage today 401. Total this car 466. Total to date 997.
