We had a quiet late start to the day. We went in 2 cars - Rob's and Kevin's cars, to SS Rotterdam. It is a decommissioned previous cruise liner of the Holland America Line. It is permanently moored just off the Maas River and serves as a hotel and attraction. It is a sister ship to the boat that Frans and Marrianne would have sailed aboard to Australia. It was a 6 to 7 week voyage. We toured the boat with recorded electronic guides and learned what life aboard the ship would have been like for the passengers. We also got to tour the bridge and the officers quarters. Later we also went down in to the bowels of the ship in the machine room - we had a guide who was very passionate and explained in great detail about the machines and stabilisers and water evaporators, all in a confined space with the diesel and oil fumes, we did not stay long.
We then had a to go past Feyenord Stadium - someone was a one eyed supporter. Apparently there is such a deep hatred that when Feyenord play Ajax - Amsterdam team, only the fans from one side are allowed to be in the stadium at one time. If Feyenord play Ajax in Rotterdam, then no Ajax supporters are allowed and vice versa if the game is in Amsterdam. Feyenord supporters cannot even mention Amsterdam - referring to the city by its area code - 020. I can't see this happening in our Aussie rules.
We then had a quick 2 hour shop in Rotterdam.
Dinner was in a Greek restaurant. It was our last dinner in Holland and we invited all the "underakants" - the Doofs and the Raths. It was very enjoyable and Mariska managed to give a thank you speech without breaking into tears. We have had such a good time in Holland and we needed to thank everyone.
We have our last day tomorrow and leave Schipol in the late evening.
