TDF stage 2 passes through Rotterdam from Utrecht to Neeljte Jans. We were in Neeljte Jans 2 weeks ago and it was a very windy place out over the gates protecting the dikes from high tides.
We got to Rotterdam by train and made our way to where the course loops around so we would see the peleton go by twice. We found a good spot just past the turn point and staked it out for 3 hours waiting for the race to arrive.
We had a surprise when Yvonne and Simon from Ameland met us at the TDF. We are going to spend tomorrow night with them in their home on an island.
There was a festival atmosphere with big screens and music. The weather turned, it became windy and dark and started to rain. The preceding tour caravan was interesting with many floats of the various sponsors tossing out gifts. The peleton arrived behind 3 breakaway riders and they all passed within 2 minutes! So it was back on the train to Vlaadingen and the TV to see the end of the race in Neeljte Jans - which by this time, the rain and wind which had threatened the race finish, had cleared.
Dinner was with the entire Rath clan and Yvonne and Simon.
