Morning drive of about 100km to see Mariska's uncle - Ome Theo, her father's brother. Theo is a retired Christian Brother now in his 80's. Saw his album of old pictures. Took copies of pictures for later blackmail of the family.
Ome Theo gave Mariska a new nickname - Haaibaai (b****)
Quized him about where he grew uo and where Frantz (Mariska's father) went to church as altar boy, kindergarten, played table tennis, courted Marianne in the local park.
Drove to Rotterdam to look for these places. Found the house which is now changed - probably merged with the adjoining terrace. Some kind occupants let us into the building to look around. Went to the park with a beautiful lake and scattered some of the ashes of Frantz and Mariane in the lake.
Later in afternoon, we went to Euromast. 185m tower - higest in Holland with best views of Rotterdam. Mariska was very brave and actually got all the way up in the open view lift at the top of the tower. She had her eyes shut, hands stuck to the seat, trembling legs. Sweated so much she wet her pants. She did not enjoy it.
Went down and had a coffee in the restaurant - she had apple strudel, declined the slagroom (cream) because it would make her fat, the waitress commisserated because she knew what it was like to have a big arse! (Mariska very impressed).
Dutch style Chinese food for dinner.
Visit to Rob's sister - Mariane and her husband Rob - in the evening. Planned to cycle (or in Rob's words - Bikeling) but rained, still going to try and cycle in Holland.
