Perhentian Kecil.....Paradise. This place was just amazing if you can ever go, do it!
We had to catch a speed boat from the mainland as it's only a tiny remote island, the smaller of the two Perhentians. On the boat we met two people - Kam and Laura who we hung around with the whole time we were there. Kam's a Brummie and works with my mate (Mr Powell, that's you - I have my spies at Serco now!!), he also went to the same college as me, and drinks in the same pub as me sometimes - small small world! Laura's a Man United season ticket holder, so we don't need to go any further on her.... They were both great and I'll be meeting up with Kam in Birmingham when I'm back.
The island is so beautiful, lovely white beaches, clear sea, cheap beach huts, chilled people..... I could go on! We spent the time mostly on the beach and playing ridiculous amounts of s***head!! There were loads of great places to eat and I'm now hooked on Roti, a traditional Malaysian breakfast which is flat bread with curry sauce....I need to know how to make them! Me and Laura also spent a lot of time drinking tea, hadn't had a cup in weeks and was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!!
We did go snorkeling one of the days - I don't recommend snorkeling after a night of heavy drinking! We saw loads of amazing fish, including a Stingray, and went out to a lighthouse we could dive off (check out the pics). Our guide for the snorkeling trip, G, had lived in Birmingham for 2 months and did a crazy Brummie accent. He was also handy to know as the booze was pretty expensive - G and his cousin sold it at knock down prices and would bring bottles of spirits into the bars for you and nobody questioned it! As you may have guessed, there were some messy nights (most of them)! Everyone who was traveling seemed to go to the same bar - Palm Cafe - so there was always a good party there and we enjoyed drinking plenty of "Monkey Juice"! Don't ask me what it is, I still don't know!!
It's the most beautiful place I've been in terms of beaches and being so laid back and was great to spend 6 days doing virtually nothing. Stu was hooked on the place and decided to stay on there for a few more days with Kam, Laura and another girl we met, Amy - as I had to be in Phuket to meet Dave and Pete, I reluctantly had to leave. Probably a good thing though, as I think I would've ended up staying there for weeks!!
