David's Travels
....After dragging myself away from Singapore, we took the night train to Kuala Lumpur that had air-con that could've happily powered a family freezer. Out came the sleeping bag for what was a terrible night's sleep!
On arrival we took a taxi to our hostel which was nicely located within walking distance of all the attractions and shopping. Our room wasn't ready for a few hours, so we all passed out on a sofa watching a DVD. After we'd settled into our room, we set out to get some food and have a look at the Petronas Towers by night. Stu managed to polish off the biggest stingray I'd ever seen, the man isn't human when it comes to food...
As we were only in KL for 2 nights, we used the next full day for checking out all the sites. Up first was a good hour and a half queue to get one of the limited free tickets they issue in the morning. Unfortunately as soon as it was time for us to go up, out came the rain clouds and pelted it down, so the pics from the towers aren't as good as they could've been. You're only allowed as far as the 41st floor and the bridge that connects the two towers, but it was a fantastic view and the structure is amazing. Definitely recommended.
We then walked across to China Town and Little India which were full of blokes selling DVDs, I'm sure I've seen them down Selly Oak before...."Special DVD"?? There was a really good market in China Town that did cheap food and sold some locally made goods.
In the evening we took a trip up the KL Tower which gives you amazing 360 degree views of Kuala Lumpur. Although the views were great by night, I imagine that by day they are much better. After that we went for some food and as Malaysia were celebrating 49 of independence that day, there were some amazing fireworks to finish off the night and nicely cap off our 2 days in Kuala Lumpur.
We caught a coach to Georgetown in Penang which is an island off the North West coast of Malaysia, and got ourselves a hostel there which can only be described as a crack den!!! I think Stu was bitten within minutes of sitting on the mattress, and at 1.50GBP a night, it was overpriced. Not to fear, we found a 24 hour bar and did an all-nighter until our ferry to Langkawi at 8am....it was messy!!! That's pretty much it for Penang; I'm not going to even give it its own blog space!! Oh yeah, the ladyboy prostitutes in Penang have deeper voices than I do...classy ladies/men!! That'll do for now, next stop Langkawi.........
