David's Travels
A few days on Tioman Island we decided to break the trip north with a stop-over in Cherating - don't believe anything a Rough Guide tells you!!! - "travelers' hangout"...... It certainly wasn't! I'll keep this entry brief as there's really not much to say. The weather was pretty bad, beach was dirty and there weren't any other travelers apart from a couple of Germans! Again, good old guide book recommended a hostel "Shadow of the Moon at Half Past Four", if there was anywhere I would warn people never to go to, it'd be here - the name should've said it all. I'd describe it as something from Dusk Till Dawn (the room we were shown was vile and had beer cans all over the floor and beds!) and the drunk English bloke in the bar looked like Billy Connelly and Spoke like Ozzy Osborne - you get the picture - we swiftly moved on and bumped into a fairly normal English guy who lived in Cherating and he took us to a nice place. As there wasn?t much going on, it was fairly relaxing, and we just chilled out for 2 nights. I did manage to watch Villa play Watford (Kick-off about midnight here) with the guy who owned the place where we were staying. A seriously boring 0-0 and the conversation between us was pretty interesting as his vocabulary only consisted of "Aston Willa" which he said at random points throughout the game. You can tell I got up to a lot here as I'm really scraping the barrel for things to write! The highlight was finding a football pitch on the beach and killing some time taking on Stu! Next stop Perhentian Islands....
