Day 4 - It was bags packed, left at reception & off to explore Edinburgh Castle. It opened at 9.30 and already there were hundreds lined up, fortunately most had pre-booked so the queue to the ticket office was a small one. We hired an audio commentary machine which allowed us to enter the number relative to the exhibit and lisent to a brief talk on it. It saved a lot of time by not having to read all the displays and kept the crowds moving. We spent about 3 hours there before we had to go and pick up the rental car, our transport for the next 2 weeks. Both couples ended up with station wagons, better for carrying suitcases. David & I then headed up to Arthur's Seat while Elaine & Phil went to catch up with friends. David & I headed up the steep and uneven climb to find the seat - it was nowhere to be found, still unsure of why it is called that. Anyway it was a good walk. The views over Edinburgh and surrounds were great, made better by the weather. Our next stop was Leith, home of the decommissioned royal yacht "Britannia". She is moored at Edinburgh's ocean liner terminal, 15 minutes from the city. We hired a similar audio commentary system as we had at the castle & spent the next couple of hours going over the ship. We left around 5pm, struck peak hour traffic and headed for the Queensferry Bridge ( a massive suspension bridge over the Firth of Forth), which would get us to St Andrews about 8.30pm and still with no place to stay. We eventually found a very comfortable B&B about half a mile from the famous golf course. The weather was kind to us again all day with similar forecast for tomorrow.
