Day 9 - We woke to a fine day and headed out of Portree about 9am. A hour's drive saw us at Ardvasar, a small town in the south west of Skye where we hopped on a ferry for a 30 minute crossing to the mainland town of Mallaig. An hour's drive gave us our first glimpse of UK's highest mountain Ben Nevis. We drove to the end of the Gorge of Glen Nevis, then walked up the gorge a further 1km to a spectacular waterfall. Our next well known point of interest was Loch Lomond. A short drive from Ben Nevis, this Loch has a scenic 30 mile drive along its shores. There were quite a lot of large boats on the Loch, taking the tourists to many of the scenic spots around the Loch. Leaving Loch Lomond it was not long before we found ourselves on larger busier motorways that were taking us towards Glasgow. We skirted our way around this large city and found a very comfortable B&B at Irvine, a coastal centre about 20km south west of Glasgow
