Greetings from India!!
We arrived in Mumbai in the early hours of christmas day, after getting to our hotel we headed into the city to enjoy a curry christmas dinner. We found the most amazing vegetarian restaurant called Samrat, after dinner we strolled along the promenade of Chowpatty beach.
Mumbai is a crazy city, with buildings marking its former colonial glory now sitting in a state of disrepair. That said we couldn't help fall in love with its charm and its people. we spent the weekend seeing the sights of the central Fort and Colaba areas as well seeing the dhobi ghats (men washing clothes) in the north. We sat and watched hundreds of cricket matches on the oval Maidan (park). The food here is amazing and its a welcome relief after Chinese cuisine!
The poverty here is really bad and there are families sleeping rough on every street corner. we took a brief visit to some slums but we felt uncomfortable looking around knowing that we could little to help their situation.
We are leaving for an area further north this evening, we will arrive in Udaipur where we plan to spend new year's eve.
lots of love Liz and Dale xx
P.S. We watched an awesome bollywood movie 'Tees Mar Khan!' Couldn't understand all of the jokes but we got the story line! Plus we had to stand and sing the Indian national anthem before the film!
